Best practices

  • Write the opening message from the customer’s point of view, e.g. “Hi, I’d like to order…”.
  • Use a WhatsApp Business number so you can set greetings and away messages.
  • Add the WhatsApp icon or “Chat with us” as the frame text so the action is obvious.
  • Don’t include a leading zero after the country code — we remove it automatically.

Does this use the official WhatsApp link?

Yes. It encodes a wa.me link, WhatsApp’s supported way to start a chat with a number.

Do people need to save my number?

No. The chat opens directly, even if you’re not in their contacts.

Does it work outside India?

Yes. Choose any country code from the list; we never assume a country.

Can I pre-fill the message?

Yes. The message is URL-encoded into the link and appears in the text box, ready to send.

What if they don’t have WhatsApp?

The wa.me page opens in their browser with an option to download WhatsApp or use WhatsApp Web.
